BACKGROUND FOR SERVICE LEARNING IN THIS CLASS

The idea of working with clients as part of a class is not new. At UAF several courses have service learning or project work components.

I offer this assignment because:

  • Over the past several semesters several students have taken the course because they wanted to rework a non-profit website, to update an employer’s website or to create a website for a friend or family member.
  • Service learning is a great way to create a product that will truly add to your portfolio.
  • Working with a client is an experience requiring students to focus on layout, navigation, content, purpose, grouping materials, and communication.
